Effect of accelerator on flotation rate of fine coal

    • The fatty acid monoglyceride PGS used as the flotation accelerant is a synthetic product formed with natural cottonseed oil and industrial by-products.The new-type emulsified flotation collector ZFC is prepared with 3% PGS, 27% diesel oil and 70% water. Then test on flotation rate is conducted with two kinds of the 1/3 coking coal samples using ZFC and diesel oil respectively as collector.Through fitting of the test data using the first-level flotation dynamics equation, the dynamics equation of each sample is derived. It is observed through comparison of the flotation rate constants that in the case of using ZFC as collector, the constant is greater than that of diesel oil, demonstrating that a higher flotation rate can be expected with the use of the former as collector.Measurements of hydrophobicity, FTIR and wetting heat of surface of coal samples indicate that:a chemisorptive effect takes place between PGS accelerant and coal particle surface, causing the non-polar group of the accelerant to face outward, which is helpful to improved hydrophobicity of coal particles and enable the non-polar hydrocarbon oil to rapidly form an oil film on coal particle surface; and the strength and stability of adsorption of emulsified oil on coal particles is improved to some extent, which can therefore boost the flotation rate as the coal particles are made not easy to come off along with the rise of bubbles.
