Study on desulfurization and ash reduction of the medium to high-sulfur raw coal from Hengtai Coal Mine, SW Guizhou Province using shaking table

    • The medium and high-sulfur raw coal produced by Hengtai Coal Mine is selected as the object of study. Based on analysis of the property of raw coal, test is made on the feasibility of carrying out desulfurization and ash reduction of the coal using shaking table. Test result shows that the coal has a moisture of 2.03%, a total sulfur of 2.05%, an ash of 16.85% (dry basis), and a content of volatile matters of 10.06% (dry ash-free basis). It is a typical bituminous coal with medium and high sulfur content, low to medium ash content and a higher metamorphism. Result of comprehensive study on such factors as table′s flushing water volume, lateral inclination angle and operating stroke shows that when the table is used for treating a raw coal feed with a upper size limit of 0.8 mm and a solids concentration of 20% under the operating conditions of a flushing water quantity of 5.4 L/min, a traverse gradient of 5°and a stroke of 15 mm, a clean coal product having an ash of 10.89%, a sulfur of 1.10% and a yield of 27.84% can be obtained through a single rougher process; and by applying the roughing-cleaning-scavenging combined process, a final clean coal product with an ash of 11.16%, a sulfur of 0.96% and a yield of 32.83% can be obtained. The study made provides a basis for clean and comprehensive utilization of high-sulfur coal resources in southwestern Guizhou Province.
