Study on improvement of caking property of the coal of Haishiwan Mine by reconstituting maceral components through coal preparation

    • With an aim to enhancing utilization value of the coal of Haishiwan Mine, a study is made on improvement of the caking property of the coal based on results of proximate, ultimate and petrograhpic analysis of the coal, and through separation of the coal at both higher and lower separation densities for ash reduction and reconstitution of macerals. Study results show that Haishiwan coal is of good quality, yet it has a high content of inertinite, a major factor restricting it scope and value of utilization; when the coal is crushed down to a size of minus 6 mm, the impurities in coal can be thoroughly liberated; after ash reduction of the coal at a separation density of 1.6 g/cm3, the theoretical yield and ash of the separated floats are 85.05% and 5.09%, respectively, indicating it is an easy-to-wash coal; after rewashing of the float material at a separation density of 1.28 g/cm3 after being ground down to a size of 0.125 mm, the cleaned product with a yield of 42.00% and a content of vitrinite as high as 85.92% can be obtained; and when the content of vitrinite in Haishiwan coal is greater than 75% after reconstitution of macerals, the coal exhibits a notably improved caking property with a quality up to the standard of gas coal, effectively enhancing it utilization value. The work made in the paper not only promotes the utilization of macerals in Haishiwan coal by quality, but also contributes significantly to clean and high-efficiency utilization of coal against the backdrop of achieving the carbon peaking and neutrality goals.
